Bunkers hill cottages/farm entrance

Reported via mobile in the Mud on the road category anonymously at 10:35, Mon 25 November 2024

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2824408.

There is a very dangerous amount of mud on the road where the farmers have not cleaned up after the recent beet harvest. As it is on a bend and part of a major diversion route all traffic from the local villages are using this road including the school buses so it is even busier than usual. It is only a matter of time before an accident occurs. It has been like this for over a week. One car has already left the road. A request was made to the farmers to clear it but it has been ignored.

  • Thanks for getting in touch with us. We have spoken with the operatives on site and they will get some 'mud on road' boards out and ask the farm owner to come out and sweep the road. Thank you for reporting this matter.

State changed to: not the council's responsibility

  • This issue is still ongoing. No one has cleaned the road and we continue to battle through inches deep mud every time we leave the village. Due to a road closure this is our only route out of the village. Please ensure this is cleared as soon as possible. As I mentioned in my previous email it is not only dangerous but the wear and tear on our cars is totally unacceptable. The level of mud on the road has further eroded the road surface and increased the size of the potholes.

I would argue that this is very much the council’s responsibility as they have imposed the road closure in the first place. The mud is not solely caused by the farmers but by the double decker buses and coaches forced to use a single track road that is totally unsuitable for vehicles of this size. The mud across much of the road is from the verges where these vehicles have to edge past each other.

Please can you sort this out?
