  • The 5 drains on High Street (the Post Office side) need urgently unblocked. My neighbour and I prodded the drains with broom handles for hours to get the water to move. The water covered the whole road but when the drains were prodded we got the water away, this is not fair when cars drive through creating waves into people’s homes. I would even pay for the drains to be serviced myself but private companies won’t do it as they are your roads.

  • The County has received a large amount of rainfall in a short space of time and as such we are having to prioritise flooding sites which pose a risk to life or significant risk of internal flooding. It’s worth noting that at times of extreme weather even well-maintained drains can become overwhelmed and at the moment road gullies may not be able to drain away into watercourses which are full or backing up, including sewers. If the problem happens again but in less extreme conditions then please report this to us and we will investigate the issue again. Rest assured that we will be inspecting all drains and gullies in the coming weeks once the emergency response is over. Whilst we have been doing our best to deliver sandbags to the most critical locations, we are unable to meet every request and have been working with the emergency services to make some difficult decisions about where to deploy our resources first during the flooding. Please be advised that you are able to source your own flood protection such as sandbags from local builders merchants and should take steps to protect your own property if you are able. Thank you for reporting this matter.
