Under the railway bridge on Sand Lane/Station Road closest to Barkston
Reported via desktop in the Pothole on road/cycleway category by Adrian Charity at 15:19, Thursday 6 February 2025
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2833517.
Due to regular flooding and permanent surface water, the road surface had completely failed under the bridge. There is a high risk of head on collision as well as severe damage to road users, as the pot hole is so wide and deep that vehicles try to take avoiding action which puts them on the wrong side of the road approaching a blind bend - I narrowly avoided a head on collision with someone on the wrong side of the road who was avoiding the pothole when I came round the corner. The surface has been patched a number of times, but due to poor drainage, it is washed away within a month. The location and conditions mean it is too dangerous to take a photograph. The pothole is particularly dangerous when hidden under deep water, which it frequently is. Other parts of the road are subsiding close by.

Please see pictures taken this morning under the railway bridge. Someone may have shovelled some gravel into a large hole, but this has not and will not fix the problem. As you can see, the road remains in a dilapidated and dangerous condition, with the road surface breaking up under the bridge causing people to swerve into the path of oncoming vehicles, especially when the potholes are hidden under water. Just after the bridge, the road is subsiding again. Someone should inspect the work being carried out as it’s a waste of money just filling the hole and then it washing out again. It needs properly resurfacing. Ideally, please don’t mark this request as complete until permanent road surface improvement works have been carried out. Thanks.
