On the verge outside 35A East Street

Reported via desktop in the Dying or diseased tree category by Philip Masters at 14:47, Thu 15 May 2025

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2843956.

This is a ginko tree. The outer branch has grown such that there is a danger of the tree splitting and becoming unstable. Leaf growth seems unusually sparse. The forking branch was observed several years ago, by your tree officer, when it was less pronounced. He commented that it needed to be taken off but nothing was done. Another tree outside my house, a beautiful, Rowan, was diseased. I reported it. Nothing was done. It had to be taken down some years ago. Nothing has been planted in its place. I hope the same fate does not occur to the ginko. This is a conservation area...I don't know if the rules apply to trees...both were/are well over twenty five years old, the roots of the ginko are pushing up through the tarmac of the footpath, go into my garden, under the shrubbery, and may, I believe, have caused the death of a mahonia japonica, a pyrancanthus and two buddlei davidii.

  • We’re sending you this message to let you know that an Arborist has advised the tree appeared healthy, balanced and only a semi-mature stature, thus I am not yet concerned about. This will be re-visited next year Thank you for reporting this matter.

  • I know we are experiencing drought and that is a consideration, but the ginko tree is shedding a lot of leaves at this early stage. The two photos show the dead leaves being shed onto my lawn. My fear is that we shall lose it unless some kind of care is taken of it. I am willing to do anything I can to help...like watering it.....but your arborologist needs to take the initiative.

  • Maybe an autumnal mulch would help.

  • The tree is clearly dying. It appears to be in sound condition but it won't be unless it is attended to. If it falls down and damages my property the LCC will be held liable. My previous update has gone unacknowledged and answered.
