This drain outside my property has been blocked for several years. It overflows immediately when it rains. I’ve removed surface debris/leaves myself (which is the large black/brown mound of leaves, dirt and mud which can be seen in my front garden), but water still doesn’t drain at all, suggesting the pipework is silted or blocked further down. I have a young child in the house who is just learning to walk and my worry as winter approaches is frozen standing water on the road/pavement outside my house as the water collects and pools on the road.

Why have we closed this report? We cleaned this areas drains in the last year and our last inspection showed that they are working well. It’s worth noting though that at times of extreme weather even well-maintained drains like these can be overwhelmed. If the problem happens again but in less extreme conditions then please report this to us and we will investigate the issue again. Thank you for reporting this matter.

I mean this in the most respectful way possible, but I would strongly suggest reviewing records of whoever has provided assurance this drain has been checked and deemed not blocked in the last 12 months. I have lived in the property for over 5 years now and for at least the last 2 the drain has been packed to the brim, solid, with earthy debris. I provided photographs of the 2-3 cubic foot of packed earth I removed from the drain myself to try and resolve the issue at the time of submission.
I also find it incredibly patronising to be told that I only believe it to be blocked owing to extreme weather. We've had one of the warmest and driest summers on record in recent years yet I still felt compelled to try and unblock the drain as even the act of washing my car was causing water to pool on the road over the blocked drain.
I urge you to reconsider the decision to close this action. I have nothing to gain in providing a false report here and, as stated in the original submission am trying to address a serious risk at the bottom of my driveway concerning water freezing over in winter and my child being at risk.

Classic LCC, they don’t want to know about drainage problems for some reason, in Skellingthorpe weve been dealing with a river coming down one of our roads because there’s a blockage in the storm sewer, they don’t want to know despite it coming centimetres from flooding peoples homes
