Austendyke Road, Weston Hills
Reported via desktop in the Uneven surface category anonymously at 12:39, Mon 1 September 2025
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2854247.
Hi - you recently repaired a susidence problem on Austendyke Road in Weston Hills (carriageway heading towards Spalding). However, this issue has not been properly repaired and is already breaking away as my car has scraped the underside of her car in the surface several times due to the subsidence; seems that the subsidence was merely filled with tarmac and not properly rectified. I believe this needs re-doing. Also, a few hundred past this issue (near the left-hand curve in the road heading to Spalding) there is another serious subsidence in the road. Unless there's no oncoming traffic, there's no way to avoid it and again I have seen multiple cars scrape their undercarriage on the road surface, and my daugther's Mini has been scraping the exhaust on the road when she cannot avoid.
I would like to see both issues fixed properly; not just filling in with tarmac, but proper repairs to rectify the subsidence at source. Enough other works are taking place in Spalding, so surely a road that is used by a lot of traffice (incl. HGVs), and one that is obviously a risk to cars, needs to be properly repaired.
Thanks.

That's great to hear. I saw the paint markings on the road this morning (assume indicating where works will take place), which led me to think that the previously repaired section of road which is subsiding again, and the other section of road as you head towards Spalding (on the left-hand bend, with the bollards on the verge) which is also very dangerous are not being addressed? I assume that as there are no paitn markings on these sections?
If that's the case, I would strongly encourage you to repair these sections as well. The latter (on the left-hand bend) is very bad, and my daughter has scraped the underside of her car on this many times when not able to avoid it due to oncoming traffic. I would bet many others have done so as well.
Thanks.

You have stated that this work is planned but as of today 7.10.25 there has still been no work carried out and the road is now subsiding quite dramatically into the dyke. This forms a row of similar subsidence along this stretch of road and is an accident waiting to happen. The road can no longer be classed as safe for cyclists and motorbikes and cars and heavier vehicles are now having to run in the middle of the road due to the extreme nature of the slippage.

On 10 Oct you said work was scheduled to repair the serious issue on this road. We are now at the end of Nov and no repairs have happened and the road is getting worse by the week. When will it be repaired?>

This road is now dangerous, as at night uou do not see the problem until you are already upon it

Could the council actually do its job?! Multiple people have complained about the road, it is dangerous, risk to motorists and damaging vehicles. All you do is put up signs, yet not fix the issue. We pay enough in taxes that you should fix it.

Warning signs have been placed at this location but the subsidence of the carriageway is very server in locations along this stretch. Please bring forward scheduled works planned in March before an accident occurs at this location.

It's great to see the majority of the surface issues have been repaired, but there is about a 20m long section of subsidence that has not been addressed. The section is towards the Broadgate turning, in between two areas that have been repaired. It seems illogical to leave that untouched when the road was closed, as this section will only degrade.

Yes it's been levelled up but unless the substructure has been repaired it will just keep moving. Looks like a quick fix not a repair.
