Dear Highways Team, I’m writing in my capacity as the managing agent for St Pauls Court (Spalding) Ltd, to report a safety-critical defect at the site’s vehicular entrance off Queens Road and to request an inspection and reinstatement. Location Entrance to Telford Court , Queens Road, Spalding, PE11 2GY Issue observed The flat concrete blocks that form the two cross-bands across the site entrance (the vehicle crossover/footway) are now cracked, loosened and displaced in two layers, with elements moving and standing proud. This has created an unstable surface with trip and vehicle damage risks. Timeline & likely cause From July to approximately 10 October there have been extensive gas mains works and subsequent pavement replacement along Queens Road and nearby main roads. Throughout this period, heavy plant and construction traffic has regularly traversed the entrance. Additionally, refuse collection vehicles have crossed this point twice weekly for many years (as is normal for residential collections). Deterioration has now progressed to the point where blocks are lifting and rocking. Risk Tyre and vehicle damage: residents and visitors report pronounced movement and edges capable of cutting tyres. Cycle safety: a resident cyclist (No. 4) reports near-falls due to the surface movement. Pedestrian trip hazard: the raised, unstable blocks pose a foreseeable injury risk. Request Prompt safety inspection of the entrance crossover/footway at the above location. Immediate make-safe measures if required (e.g., temporary ramping/plannings/signing). Permanent reinstatement of the affected construction to the HAUC SROH (Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways) standard for the correct reinstatement layer depth and finish suitable for HGV loading. Coordination with utility/contractors: If the damage is attributable to recent statutory undertaker works or their heavy plant, please arrange defect correction/recharge via the appropriate undertaker under NRSWA
