Subject: Ongoing Drainage Issues and Public Safety Concerns
I am writing to raise ongoing concerns regarding the persistent blockage and flooding of the drain in question. This issue has been occurring for over five years and continues to worsen. Notably, flooding occurs even in the absence of extreme weather conditions.
Despite previous reports and remedial actions — including the installation of a raised kerb to protect our property — these measures have proven insufficient, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
I would like clarification on whether the rod pipe has been removed and whether any damage was caused during previous interventions, specifically anything that may have been broken inside the drain.
This matter has been reported to the Parish Council on multiple occasions by myself and other residents. The location of this drain is particularly concerning, as it is situated along a key pedestrian route used by children attending the local primary school, as well as by residents accessing the nearby doctor’s surgery, shop, and pub.
It is deeply worrying to see children having to step into the road to avoid the flooded path, which poses a significant safety risk. Additionally, I have personally witnessed people slipping on the slippery surface and mobility scooter users struggling to navigate the area.
Given the length of time this issue has persisted and the potential risks involved, I urge you to prioritise a thorough inspection and long-term solution to this drainage problem.
Sincerely, Mrs Veronica Dexter]
