Overgrown vegetation by public footpath, leading to private property fence near collapsing.

Reported via mobile in the Obstruction (Road/Pavement) category anonymously at 08:38, Monday 29 September 2025

Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2857049.

I reported that the land beside public footpath 151 in Spilsby, had overgrown vegetation. This location has not had the grass verge maintained for years, which has lead to the vegetation causing my fence and gate being on the verge of collapse.

I was sent a reply from Lincolnshire County Council suggesting that I should fix the issue.

Please could you clarify if the land is mine or the property of the state/local council?

My guess is that the neglect of the area has been for a number of years.

I would be happy to maintain the area, if it was at a manageable level. However, it is not and the damage to my fence and gate is substantial.

  • Hello

Attached is the status of the enquiry I made more than a month ago. I have not received any further update, which is disappointing and upsetting (apart from "investigating" email sent on 30th September 2025).

In my initial, email I asked for the third time for someone to clarify who has responsibility for the land outside my border. This question has either been ignored or forgotten about?

I know you will be extremely busy but no response is very disheartening and I do feel that my boundary fence will struggle to make it through the winter. Please could you give me some clear guidance on the matter of responsibility, as your representative has suggested to me, that I need to carry out any work needed and not the council. This response was sent days after I contacted the council (although I did not receive it until weeks later, as your representative sent it to the wrong email address). A response to update me on any decisions and the clarification of responsibility, would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in anticipation and kind regards

    Roy Anemaet
