A heavy goods vehicle left the highway several months ago following an accident that resulted in a prolonged road closure and, in doing so, struck a tree located within the Riseholme Park estate boundary.
We have since taken advice from the tree surgeon responsible for the wider university estate, who has confirmed that, as the damage arose directly from a highway-related vehicular incident, it would be appropriate for the LCC Highways team to undertake the necessary works to either remove the tree or make it safe.
For clarity, the current condition of the tree is not attributable to any lack of maintenance on the part of the University; rather, it is a direct consequence of the vehicle impact.

The responsibility for the work described regardless of the circumstances remains with those responsible for the tree and those that caused the damage. The Vehicle RTC will have a police incident number which when obtained from the police may be used by the customers insurers to deal with the third party's insurance company. The County Council has no liability in this matter. Thank you for reporting this matter.
