  • Thank you for your enquiry regarding the hedges adjacent to Washingborough Road.

Following a site investigation and consultation with our Legal Team, we can confirm that the area in question is not recorded as highway footway. Whilst it appears that chippings have historically been placed on the verge by an unknown party, likely with the intention of encouraging pedestrian use, this area does not form part of the adopted footway under the public highway and is only meant to be treated as a grass verge without continued pedestrian use.

As such, the hedges are not considered to be overhanging or obstructing the adopted highway network, and the Council is therefore unable to justify enforcement action or undertake works to cut back the vegetation at this location.

Given the status of the land, we would also not wish to encourage use of this verge area as a pedestrian footway.

I trust this clarifies the position. Thank you for reporting this matter.
