The tactile pavements are not draining at a very heavily used location creating risk to vulnerable residents and others avoiding this and crossing at other points with increased risk.

  • We are sorry but we are not taking immediate action with this report because we have inspected the reported location and noted the presence of standing water at the crossing points. While the accumulation is noticeable, it does not currently present a significant safety risk. Given the recent periods of heavy rainfall, some temporary surface water accumulation is unfortunately unavoidable. However, the water is expected to dissipate naturally as conditions improve. Thank you for reporting this matter.

  • The only way that water is going to dissipate is by evaporation or absorption through cracks into the. Sub base of the road. This leave silt and detritus at the crossing which creates a slipping hazard and makes the crossing less attractive to use. It also means winter freezing has a much more significant long term impact in terms of expensive repairs which will be more significant. Proactive repair of this is a long term proactive saving, as well as keeping the council the right side of the Equalities act. As things stand, the pedestrian crossings at this junction are not meeting our local plans strategy for increased walking, especially for people with mobility or sight related disabilities.
